Do Not Sell My Personal Information

Is this the most underrated all-time Tottenham Hotspur XI?

When it comes to listing the most underrated Tottenham Hotspur fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern, one of our punters quips that it is quite the job given the north London side tend to seriously overrate their players, until they either sell them or decide they’re utter rubbish.
That being said, the Lilywhites do have a few unsung heroes that have been mainstays of their team down the line, and we have put our heads together to come up with an XI who while they might not be getting a move to Real Madrid anytime soon, deserve far more recognition than they actually get!

Brad Friedel

The goalkeeper manages to get overlooked when you talk about the stoppers the north London club have had in the past – although Paul Robinson could possibly get in this category.
Friedel has been overlooked time and time again by the club and spends most of his time on the bench – but never lets the club down when called upon.

Pascal Chimbonda

Pascal Chimbonda
The French right back was a bit hit and miss – but still managed to put in decent shifts on a weekly basis getting up and down that flank.
Chimbonda might have lost the plot towards the end of his time at the club but when he was good, he was very, very good and managed to chip in with a few goals to boot.

Ledley King

Had King been able to stay fit through his career, he would have been one of the best defenders the Premier League had ever seen.
King was able to basically glide with the ball and had all the best components you could possibly want from a central defender – he was physical and managed to be swift and great on the ball as well.
King didn’t even train towards the end of his career and still managed to be one of the best defenders when he was able to play. A massive loss for the club.

Eric Dier

Arsenal v Tottenham Hotspur - Barclays Premier League
The young defender has not received the credit he’s deserved this term.
Dier has actually been decent when called upon although the fact that the rest of the Tottenham defence has been poor has really hampered him.
He is a young kid learning his craft and someone who needs the fans behind him if he wants to live up to his potential.

Gareth Bale

He did start as a left back after all and he really is being criminally underrated in Spain at the minute.
Bale is world class and Spurs fans know it – and poor Bale and his car are seriously getting the short straw at the minute.
What Spurs fans would do to have Bale back.

Scott Parker

Parker’s career promised so many things and he must be wondering just what happened to it, but during his time at Spurs, he was certainly decent, and was industrious in the middle of the park.
Parker is someone who suffered from injuries hampering his career – but he really isn’t that bad and could have done so much more – although the way people talk about him, you’d expect him to be Bebe.

Michael Carrick

Carrick
For someone who ended up and Manchester United and really didn’t do too badly for himself, Carrick is still criminally underrated by the fans and most of the media.
You only need to look at Spurs after he left or Manchester United this season when he doesn’t feature – they go to pot. Carrick does what it says on the tin and he does it very well.
Someone who should be praised far more than he actually is.

Christian Eriksen

Tottenham Hotspur v Burnley - Barclays Premier League
For someone who Spurs fans think is better than Alexis and Eden Hazard, Eriksen has missed out on a massive amount of praise this season and didn’t even manage to get in the team of the year.
Eriksen is still so young and is certainly someone who will improve in terms of his consistency, but he is still underrated by most Premier League fans.
Not that Spurs supporters can claim to be a part of that group.

Jermain Defoe

Jermain Defoe
For someone who scored on the regular, Defoe didn’t really get the love he deserved from the fans.
Of course, he is a bit of a serial transfer type player and someone who really never got the acclaim of supporters wherever he went – yet carried on banging in the goals regardless.

Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov

Such a classy player but someone who was called lazy time and time again.
Even during his spell at Manchester United, Berba was racking in the goals but didn’t really get the acclaim he deserved.
His skill and mannerisms make him seem lazy and as though he doesn’t care – although as Arsenal fans can attest, he still has it!
