It may be nearly Christmas here in the Transfer Tavern but there’s certainly little festive cheer with our West Ham fans at the moment.

You can’t really blame them either as this season so far has been utterly atrocious in their first campaign at the London Stadium with pretty much everything going wrong.

After a pre-season of hope the club crashed out of Europe before even reaching the group stage of the Europa League before embarking on a torrid run of form that is still continuing up until now.

They’ve done very little to suggest they will be doing more than just fighting relegation this season, too, and so it’s time for Slaven Bilic to roll the dice.

His squad are looking terrified at the moment and that calls for some fearlessness that only young footballers can bring and so, with that in mind, our landlord thinks Bilic needs to give these three wonderkids a proper run in the team…

Reece Oxford

Oxford is a very highly-rated young defender and would be starting for many sides not too far below the Hammers’ level at the moment.

His physical frame and pace belies his age whilst he already looks like he knows how to defend stoutly and that’s exactly what the club need right now. Winston Reid and James Collins have not been at it for most of this year and so it really could be time for the youngster to come in and show them how it’s done.

Ashley Fletcher

Fletcher’s made a handful of appearances in recent weeks and has looked pretty decent so he should be given a proper stint in the side.

Andy Carroll is now fit again and so maybe it’d be worth playing the two together up front as they are both physically imposing. The Hammers need to batter their way out of this current rut and having two powerful strikers could just be the way forward at the moment.

Toni Martinez

Martinez has impressed hugely in the youth ranks since signing from Valencia and could be the unknown gem to help the Hammers out.

This season the east London club have been found out quite a bit with their style of play by the opposition and their new signings have not helped them evolve into something new. It could be time to call on the young striker, then, who would ensure opposing managers would have to plan for a completely different proposition for the second half of the year.
