Manchester United are bracing for a major summer as they prepare for significant changes both on and off the pitch.
With Champions League qualification looking increasingly likely under Michael Carrick, the club are already planning how to strengthen the squad to compete at a higher level next season.
Several new arrivals are being considered, including midfield targets such as Mateus Fernandes, while uncertainty also surrounds the managerial position, with no final decision yet made on Carrick’s long-term future.
At the same time, a number of high-profile departures are expected. Casemiro is set to leave, Marcus Rashford could move on permanently, and several other players are facing uncertain futures.
One of those now appears to be edging closer to the exit door.
Sancho ‘In Talks’ with Dortmund
Borussia Dortmund have already opened discussions with Jadon Sancho’s representatives over a potential summer return, according to Sky Sports.
The move is reportedly being driven by club president Hans-Joachim Watzke, who remains a huge admirer of the winger and is pushing to bring him back to Germany. Sancho — previously labelled a “top player” by Ian Wright — is said to be fully aware of the interest, with Dortmund exploring the possibility of signing him, potentially even on a free transfer.
Despite changes behind the scenes, including the departure of sporting director Sebastian Kehl, the Bundesliga side are actively assessing whether a deal can be completed.
The final decision, however, will rest with the player, who has attracted interest from several clubs across Europe. Dortmund are optimistic that Sancho would be open to returning — even if it means accepting a reduction in wages.
Since his €85 million move to Manchester United in 2021, Sancho has struggled to consistently deliver on his early promise. A fallout over discipline issues saw him frozen out at Old Trafford before he returned to Dortmund on loan in early 2024, where he played a key role in their run to the Champions League final.
Subsequent loan spells have followed, including time at Chelsea and now Aston Villa, but a permanent return to Dortmund is increasingly being viewed as a realistic outcome — and perhaps a chance for the winger to finally rediscover his best form.
With Manchester United preparing for a squad overhaul, Sancho’s future looks set to be resolved in the coming months. A return to Borussia Dortmund could offer familiarity and a fresh start, but with multiple options on the table, his next move remains one to watch closely.
