Borussia Dortmund midfielder Shinji Kagawa has emerged as a transfer target for Liverpool, according to the Daily Mail.
The 22 year-old Japanese midfielder became one of the biggest revelations of European football last season with his eye-catching performances for Dortmund, where he scored 12 goals in 28 appearances, helping them to the Bundesliga title in the process.
He has earned a reputation for being one of the most exciting play-makers in Europe at the moment, which is why many of Europe’e elite clubs are rumoured to be interested in him.
Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus and AC Milan are a few of the big teams who have been linked with Kagawa in the past 12 months.
Kagawa joined Dortmund in the summer of 2010 from Japanese side Cerezo Osaka for just €350,000, due to a release clause in his contract allowing him to leave for that price to a European club.
But Kagawa is now worth significantly more and Liverpool would have to fork out the kind of money that they have been spending on players over the past year or so, if they are to land the talented Japanese international.
German champions Borussia Dortmund are likely to have no intention of selling one of their top young stars, unless Kagawa wants to leave and pursue a career in the Premier League.
Despite spending around £100 million on players since Kenny Dalglish took over, Liverpool still feel they can improve the squad further with the additions of one or two new faces.
