It’s been another weary season for the Sunderland fans drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern as their side continue to battle relegation. This time, however, there isn’t an easy way out for those on Wearside.
While it looks like the tide has finally turned on the Black Cats, reports from the Daily Mail have at least given the punters in the bar something to smile about. According to their report, the injury crisis dogging English strikers at the moment could reportedly prompt Gareth Southgate into recalling Jermain Defoe to the Three Lions set-up.
Despite the fact his side are bottom of the league, Defoe is proving as lethal as ever in front of goal, bagging 14 times so far this season. The 34-year-old hasn’t featured the national side since 2013, though injuries to the likes of Harry Kane, Marcus Rashford, Daniel Sturridge and Wayne Rooney could reportedly see him recalled.
West Ham United man Andy Carroll is another who is thought to be under consideration for the upcoming games with Germany and Lituania, though the Sunderland fans in the Tavern are delighted something is finally going right for one of their players.
Should Defoe be brought back into the England squad? Let us know below…
