It’s been a really mixed season for Southampton and manager Claude Puel, who came within 90 minutes of EFL Cup final success earlier this campaign, having lost to Manchester United in the final.

Saints fans here in the Tavern are convinced things are moving in the right direction under their French gaffer but with European football further away than perhaps it should have been, supporters are looking forward to next season in the hope they might see some success at St Mary’s once again.

There are some cracking players in this Southampton side and even the landlord here in the pub is tipping them to do well next season and he’s a very hard man to please indeed!

The likes of Gabbiadini and Redmond have looked absolutely devastating at times this campaign and if they can stay in-form going into next season, things are looking very promising indeed.

But there’s real thought amongst some fans here in the Tavern that the team can do well next season and that certain individuals still have a lot to give this campaign.

So with that in mind, here’s TWO Southampton players that deserve another shot to shine this season…..

Sofiane Boufal

Signed for a fee of around £16million this summer, Sofiane Boufal has had to seriously bide his time for first-team minutes at times this season.

The Moroccan is a seriously talented young man, who has lots more to give in this current Southampton set-up.

And going forward, Saints fans here in the pub want to see a little more from him, especially considering the giant transfer fee that was paid for his services.

Martin Caceres

Former Juventus defender Martin Caceres has a wealth of European experience under his belt and was signed on a free transfer this January.

It’s a cracking addition to the squad, with the proven international having plenty of game-time under his belt at the highest level in Europe.

But we haven’t really seen a lot from Caceres just yet and Saints fans want to see him on the pitch and who can blame them?
