The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern are gutted that Chancel Mbemba is set to leave St James Park (according to Voetbalkrant) this summer. The Congolese centre-back is rated as one of the Geordies’ most promising defenders, and whilst the fans trust Rafa Benitez, they can’t believe the club are letting Mbemba go so easily as Anderlecht have agreed on a contract with the 23-year-old.

This time two years ago, Newcastle fans were preparing for life in the Championship. Today though, the club can look back on their last two seasons with pride, as they won promotion back to the Premier League as champions before securing a very impressive 10th placed finish in their first year back as a Premier League side. Now though, the challenge is to repeat the feat from this season and try and crack the top ten again next season.
Whilst Chancel Mbemba rarely featured for the Magpies last season, it’s still come as a disappointment for the fans that the young centre-back is being shipped off to Anderlecht. Mbemba has looked very promising at times, despite him being well down the pecking order at the club behind the likes of Jamaal Lascelles, Florian Lejeune and Ciaran Clark. However, he’ll be looking to revive his career in Belgium and make a return to one of Europe’s top five leagues as soon as he can.

Ridiculous. I know Rafa doesn’t rate him but he is technically probably the best cb at the club. We need to recoup at least £10m for a player like that. Selling back to Belgium we will be lucky to get £4m. The clubs there are skint.
