Leeds United are no longer considering a move for Alfred Schreuder, according to Phil Hay.
The Lowdown: Schreuder at Elland Road
Schreuder appeared to be in the frame for the job on Sunday, with speculation mounting during the Whites’ 2-0 defeat to Manchester United.
Mike McGrath was the first to pick up on the rumours, revealing that the 50-year-old was actually present at Elland Road for the Premier League match.
The former Ajax coach was under serious consideration to replace Jesse Marsch, although Hay has since shared a significant update.
The Latest: Hay’s update on Schreuder to Leeds
The Athletic reporter took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to share the latest on the club’s search for a new manager. The reliable reporter heard that Schreuder is ‘no longer being considered’ and ‘has gone back to’ the Netherlands.
Hay tweeted: “Hearing that Alfred Schreuder no longer being considered for the Leeds job. Has gone back to Holland and won’t be appointed. Discussions now continuing with other candidates. Skubala continuing to work with the squad in the meantime.”
The Verdict: Correct call?
Schreuder was only sacked by Ajax a few weeks ago and came in for plenty of criticism from some of their supporters.
The response from some Leeds fans online about the 50-year-old possibly taking charge also wasn’t positive, with Joe Wainman admitting that he was ‘massively worried’ about the potential appointment.
Therefore, this update could come as a relief to some, although time is ticking ahead of the crucial trip to Everton on Saturday, so it could be wise to look at an interim manager with Premier League experience, with Nuno Espirito Santo and Steven Gerrard two such names linked with the vacancy at Elland Road.
