Leeds United's Luke Ayling during the warm up before the match
Reporter and Leeds United supporter James Marshment has been left excited at an update involving defender Luke Ayling.
The Lowdown: Contract extension
The Whites confirmed on Thursday that they have exercised an option in Ayling’s deal to keep him at Elland Road until the end of the 2023/24 season.
The 31-year-old’s initial contract was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, but he now looks set to enter his eighth season as a Leeds player.
The right-back has featured heavily following the break for the World Cup ahead of summer signing Rasmus Kristensen, starting the last seven Premier League games.
The Latest: Marshment reacts
Marshment took to Twitter shortly after the news emerged on Ayling.
He labelled it as ‘great news’ and said that he’s a ‘massive presence in the Leeds dressing room and been really good in recent matches’.
The Verdict: Good news
Ayling has been one of Leeds’ best performers in recent weeks, winning a whopping 19 tackles across back-to-back games against Manchester United.
He has bounced back after Kristensen initially took the starting spot at right-back, with Ayling also being able to fill in at centre-back if needed.
Therefore, it seems to make sense to extend his stay for a further 12 months, and hopefully, he will continue to shine in what is a difficult period for the club.
