Leeds United: Whites closing in on George Hall signing

Leeds United: Whites closing in on George Hall signing - Leeds United News

Leeds United are reportedly now closing in on the signing of Birmingham City central midfielder George Hall in the January transfer window.

The Lowdown: Midfield revamp

As per TEAMtalk, the Whites look set for a midfield revamp in 2023, with Mateusz Klich set to move to the MLS.

Adam Forshaw could also follow him out of the exit door at Elland Road, as he will be out of contract at the end of the season, so January represents the club’s last chance to sell for a transfer fee.

Jesse Marsch’s side will need to bring in cover in the middle of the park if they both go, otherwise they risk leaving themselves short in that area of the pitch for the second part of the campaign.

The Latest: Hall incoming

According to TEAMtalk, the Peacocks are now ‘closing in’ on the signing of Hall, after holding a ‘long-term interest’ in the England youth international.

They were rebuffed in their attempts to try and sign him in the summer, but the failed takeover of Birmingham could force the cash-strapped Championship club to sell, as Leeds look to fend off interest from a number of their Premier League rivals for Hall’s signature.

The 18-year-old is ‘highly-regarded’ at the Blues, and the Whites see him as a ‘potential star in the making’.

The Verdict: Shrewd buy

Hall would be a shrewd buy from the Peacocks, given his age and high potential.

Birmingham U18s lead coach Martyn Olorenshaw has sung his praises before, having seen him develop in the Blues Academy:

“He is explosive, dynamic and has the prowess to influence games. He is a really exciting player that has the ceiling to achieve whatever he wants to achieve.

“He has received international recognition recently which is a huge achievement, a testament to all his hard work and a reflection of his character.”

Hall’s manager John Eustace has also shown plenty of faith in him, having played the youngster 18 times in the Championship already this term, where the midfielder has managed one goal and one assist (Transfermarkt).

Nonetheless, Leeds supporters will be eager to see him in action once a deal gets over the line.
