Leeds United climbed back into the top half of the Premier League by beating Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 at Elland Road on Saturday lunchtime.
The Whites have now taken points off five of the so-called ‘big six’ since the beginning of March.
They’ve held Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United to draws at Elland Road and caused upsets against Manchester City and Spurs.
Meslier kept Leeds 2-1 up against Tottenham
Goalkeeper Illan Meslier only had to make two saves during the game, but they were both important.
Leeds didn’t make sure of the points until Rodrigo struck six minutes from time – before that, Meslier reacted quickly to a deflection off Ezgjan Alioski to keep out Serge Aurier’s effort and also rushed out to deny Erik Lamela.
With 34-year-old World-Cup winning compatriot Hugo Lloris in action at the other end, you could be forgiven for painting this as a clash between past and future.
Meslier, who earns £16,500 per week at Elland Road, has yet to win his first senior cap for France but was called-up for the group stages of the Under-21 European Championship in March.
After the game, he tweeted: “What a win, so proud of everyone!” Here’s how fans reacted…
Meslier earns more plaudits after important Spurs contribution
“Big saves today at crucial times in the match. Well done.”
“I love you”
“France’s number 1 next season”
“You’re getting better every game”
“Illan you’ve got us at least 15 points this season, superb performance”
“Best keeper in the league. Just remember you’re Leeds!!”
“Illan you don’t know how much you mean to this Leeds team. You are fantastic”
“Great performance yet again, it’s very hard to make Lloris look like the lesser keeper but you did that today. Top class keeper and proud to have you at the club, let’s keep pushing and aim higher next season”
