Joe Wainman, a former Leeds United pundit for All Leeds TV, insists that Raphinha will improve this season after his sparkling debut campaign in the Premier League.
The Brazilian enjoyed an excellent first season and played a key role in Leeds securing a top-half finish, instead of battling relegation after their promotion from the Championship.
Raphinha made a total of 30 appearances in the league and scored six goals, while also registering nine assists.
Is Raphinha the best player at Leeds?
A tricky, exciting winger, the 24-year-old’s numbers point to a player who could grow and improve over time.
Indeed, per fbref, Raphinha averages 0.3 expected assists (xA) per 90, 0.36 assists per 90, and 4.95 progressive passes. The first two numbers place him in the top 10% of players in Europe’s top five leagues, while the latter places him in the top 11%.
Two players who he is statistically similar to, per the website, are Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes and Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale.
And JustJoe Football Show host Wainman said: “I think this season he’ll do even better. I think the thing with Bielsa is when they come in, of course it’s not always the case, but 90% of players improve season on season on season.”
