Phil Hay has dealt a big injury blow to Leeds United as he confirmed from Marcelo Bielsa’s presser that Kalvin Phillips is a ‘doubt’ for the Arsenal game.
The central midfield player had to hobble off late on in the Whites’ 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Elland Road on Monday night, and it has now been confirmed that he is a doubt for the match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Phillips missing would be a big blow
To have Phillips out of the clash would be a big blow to the hopes of the Peacocks in getting something out of the game.
Former LUFC striker Noel Whelan highlighted just how ‘integral’ he is to the Yorkshire club when he gave his thoughts recently to Football Insider over Phillips’ injury, and a player like him in midfield would be sorely missed against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners.
Is Phillips Leeds' most important player?
Phillips has won no fewer than six of his duels a game in the Premier League and also averages 2.7 tackles, 1.8 clearances, 1.6 interceptions and 1.3 key passes per match (Sofascore), showing his ability to first break up play and then set his teammates off on the attack once he wins it.
Consequently, to have him out of the game in North London would be a big blow to Leeds.
