Leeds United reportedly look set to sign teenage defender Diogo Monteiro from Servette over the coming days.

The Lowdown: McKennie speculation

The Whites have already signed Max Wober and Georginio Rutter this month and seemingly have their eye on a third and final first-team addition in Weston McKennie.

Leeds chiefs appear to be progressing in talks with Juventus and have already agreed on personal terms with the midfielder. However, it looks as if a move for Monteiro, who scout Ron Dor dubbed a “beast in the making” last month, could also go through before Tuesday’s deadline.

The Latest: Transfer update

MOT Leeds News relayed an update from Swiss outlet Tribune De Geneve on Thursday regarding Leeds and Monteiro.

They claimed that the centre-back will commit to Elland Road in the coming days and a transfer could be confirmed on Saturday when he turns 18.

The Whites have also reportedly agreed to a sell-on clause with Servette for any future departure from Yorkshire for Monteiro.

The Verdict: Good to see

Victor Orta has had his hands full this month bolstering Jesse Marsch’s squad, but it’s good to see that the club have found time to add to the academy ranks.

Hopefully, Monteiro will be able to progress through the Thorp Arch academy over the coming years and make himself a first-team regular, similar to what Pascal Struijk has managed after he joined from Ajax back in 2018.

Leeds have shown that a deal like this can work, with Struijk currently the club’s best-performing player in the Premier League, as per WhoScored. He’s also valued at a career-high €20m by Transfermarkt, so the Dutch defender could be seen as the perfect role model for Monteiro in Yorkshire.
