Leeds United correspondent Phil Hay has relayed news on an injury to defender Leo Hjelde in the 3-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday afternoon.

The Lowdown: An afternoon to forget

The Whites were undone by Frank Lampard’s side in the opening 25 minutes, with defenders Seamus Coleman and Michael Keane giving the Toffees a 2-0 lead.

Rodrigo Moreno struck the woodwork twice in the opening 45 minutes, but Leeds were never at the races and Richarlison’s late strike, which deflected off Antony Gordon, sealed the three points for the hosts.

The afternoon started poorly when first team regular Stuart Dallas was forced off inside the opening 10 minutes, and Hjelde, who came on for the Northern Irishman, also ended the afternoon requiring treatment.

The Latest: Hay’s update on Hjelde

During Hay’s commentary of the game on Twitter, he said this after Hjelde went down and failed to come back on in the final stages:

“Hjelde now down after a challenge on Coleman and in a lot of pain. Issue with his right leg.

“Won't be coming back on and is limping around the pitch. Leeds down to 10.”

The Verdict: Bad to worse

Described as ‘quick’ by his former Ross County manager John Hughes, Hjelde was actually Leeds’ joint-third best performer at Goodison Park with a match rating of 7.0/10. The 18-year-old made four tackles and three interceptions, blocked two shots and won 100% of his ground duels. [SofaScore]

However, it seems that he may join several Leeds players on the injury table just as he was becoming a regular in the matchday squad and could have possibly replaced Dallas in the team going forward, with the club's injury situation going from bad to worse on Saturday.

Hopefully the problem isn’t a serious one and was mainly an impact injury, but only time will tell ahead of the club’s next game against rivals Manchester United next weekend.
