Leeds United winger Helder Costa has hinted at leaving the club in the near future after admitting he is much happier on loan at Valencia.
The Lowdown: Costa sent out on loan
The 27-year-old played a minor role for the Whites last season, starting just 13 of his side’s 38 Premier League matches.
With Marcelo Bielsa clearly not seeing Costa as a key player in 2021/22, he was allowed to leave the club on a temporary basis, joining Valencia in the summer.
The winger has made six La Liga appearances so far this season, as he continues to find his feet at his new club.
The Latest: Wingers hints at Leeds exit
“I feel better here, I came from a not so good situation. But Valencia have given me the opportunity to relaunch my career and I think this is the ideal place to do that.
“I hope to be up to the challenge. I didn’t have continuity of games, but the coach has given me a chance and I want to make the most of it.
“I know I have to improve my weaknesses.”
The Verdict: Suits all parties
Costa is a gifted footballer – Nuno Espirito Santo once described him as ‘immense’ – but he has no future at Leeds, with Bielsa making that clear with the lack of opportunities last term.
The Whites now have Raphinha, Dan James and Jack Harrison as strong wide options, and considering he turns 28 in January, Costa doesn’t necessarily represent the long-term, either.
It makes perfect sense for Leeds to receive a fee for the Portuguese in January or next summer, benefiting them financially and allowing him to move on to the next stage in his career.
