With the domestic transfer window due to close at 5pm this evening, we take a brief look at the gossip surrounding Leeds United, with Todd Cantwell and Louie Sibley both linked with moves to Elland Road.
Marcelo Bielsa has spent just under £100m so far in an attempt to bolster his squad options after gaining promotion to the Premier League this summer. Bolstering his squad with the likes of Rodrigo Moreno, Diego Llorente and Raphinha, the Argentine tactician still remains keen on bringing in a new midfielder.
Linked with a number of players, Bielsa has followed up his failed move for Michael Cuisance with reported interest in Championship duo Cantwell and Sibley.
Will Leeds sign Cantwell before 5pm?
Despite plentiful speculation and a claim from Italian journalist Nicolo Schira earlier this month that Cantwell had penned personal terms with Leeds, there has been no formal offer made by the Whites for the 22-year-old Norwich star.
Sky Sports reported earlier this week that the Canaries had not received an offer from Leeds and a subsequent report from Football Insider appeared to rule out any move before the domestic window closes this evening.
Can Leeds sign Louie Sibley?
Aside from that interest in Cantwell, Derby County’s Louie Sibley has emerged as a potential arrival at Elland Road. The England under-20 international is believed to be an integral part of Derby’s plans this season and a deal seems to be ‘unlikely’ at this late stage.
Former Southampton and England striker Kevin Phillips has discussed the youngster’s potential move to Elland Road, calling on the Yorkshire club to loan him back to Derby if a deal does go through.
Sibley secured an impressive five goals and two assists in his 11 first team appearances in the Championship last term.
Are Leeds in the hunt for anyone else before the 5pm deadline?
It does not seem that Leeds are looking at bringing in any other players this late in the window, although Robbie Gotts’ exit to Lincoln City on loan is expected to be followed by an exit for Barry Douglas.
The Scottish defender has been linked with both Watford and Blackburn Rovers, with latest reports claiming the latter are in pole position to seal a deadline day agreement.
