Leeds United have been linked to midfielder Riqui Puig in the past. It now seems like the possibility of this happening is very likely following the latest update on the Barcelona starlet.
The latest on Riqui Puig
According to SPORT, via Through It All Together, the Spanish giants see a loan deal with Marcelo Bielsa as the best option for the development of their young prospect, who is struggling for minutes at the Nou Camp.
This would be big news for Leeds, as they were not the only club interested, but it looks like they are now in pole position to sign him, with Victor Orta already having a track record of scooping up talent in Spain.
This move could benefit all parties
The Barcelona man was praised heavily by former manager Quique Setien, who said: “He has come out with a lot of energy and he has done an extraordinary job.”
He has made 17 appearances for the first team, with only one coming this season (Transfermarkt). However, he has definitely showcased his potential in the UEFA Youth League, playing ten times in the competition and picking up three assists and three goals.
The midfielder has drawn some big comparisons, with Daniele Massaro believing he could be ‘the new Andrés Iniesta’.
Therefore, Leeds making a loan move for the 21 year-old could be absolutely ideal and benefit all parties. He could get some great experience and grow as a player, whilst Leeds could have their hands on a real talent to help them for the season.
