Leeds United are set to hold fresh talks with Huddersfield Town over a potential deal for Lewis O'Brien, according to Football Insider.

The lowdown

Leeds have been long-term admirers of O'Brien, with Marcelo Bielsa's side already having a bid in the region of £2million-£3million rejected by Huddersfield Town.

O'Brien has made 82 appearances for the Terriers since coming through their academy system earlier in his career.

It remains to be seen as to what Huddersfield's valuation of the midfielder is at this stage, but Leeds seemingly aren't giving up in their pursuit of the 22-year-old.

The latest

Football Insider's Leeds source claims that Victor Orta and co are holding fresh talks over a deal for O'Brien, despite being knocked back in their first offer for the midfielder.

It is reported that new discussions are underway, 'amid growing signs' that an agreement between both parties can be reached this summer.

Further negotiations are taking place, with Leeds clearly hopeful that they can make a breakthrough in their efforts to strike a deal to sign O'Brien.

The verdict

You can understand Leeds' thinking with this potential deal. O'Brien has caught the eye with some strong performances for Huddersfield Town in recent seasons, averaging a Whoscored rating of 6.81 from the 2020/21 campaign, which put him third in the list of Huddersfield Town's best performers.

Leeds could benefit from adding additional competition for the likes of Mateusz Klich and Stuart Dallas in the centre of midfield this summer, and O'Brien is still young enough to develop into a key player for the club, perhaps starting out as a depth option.

Speaking in a previous interview, Carlos Corberan issued high-praise for O'Brien, and labelled his progress as 'excellent' while hailing his 'amazing skills' and the ability to play 'every minute of every game'.

Given Bielsa's intense style and the requirement for elite fitness to thrive within it, O'Brien sounds like the perfect target for Orta and co.
