As Leeds United eye Sampdoria attacker Mikkel Damsgaard ahead of a summer move, according to reports, La Repubblica (via Sport Witness) have dropped an update on their pursuit. The outlet has claimed that contact may have been made as they state Victor Orta and the recruitment team have ‘tested the waters‘.
Leeds testing water for Damsgaard
Indeed, as per this update on Damsgaard, Leeds have apparently ‘moved ahead of the summer market‘ in an effort to secure Damsgaard – with the Serie A ace seemingly at the top of Andrea Radrizzani’s priority list judging by La Republicca’s claim.
Seen as a highly promising star, described as ‘magical’ by Danish football expert Martin Mikkelsen (TV 2), Damsgaard has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League recently.
Leeds are reportedly in contention alongside the likes of Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham United and Southampton – but the Whites may have already made contact as La Repubblica hint (via Sport Witness).
Transfer Tavern take
If Orta wishes to snap up the attacker for Leeds this summer, the club will have to fork out his asking price of around €20 million (£17.5 million) – but it remains to be seen whether they will meet Sampdoria’s demands.
It could be a gamble investment given Damsgaard’s lack of starts in Serie A so far (WhoScored), but he has drawn some noteworthy comparisons already.
He has been likened to Danish footballing icon Michael Laudrup (TuttoMercatoWeb), and if Leeds to manage to pen a deal, supporters could be hoping he lives up to that tag.
In other news: Leeds have been named as a suitor for this ace, find out more here.
