Leeds United are ready to make a fresh move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien.

The Whites know all about O’Brien and chased a move for the 23-year-old over the summer.

He was thought to be top of Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield wishlist, with Leeds seeing four offers rejected by The Terriers - their chairman, Phil Hodgkinson, even confirmed the rejection of those bids.

O’Brien remained at Huddersfield and has been a regular under former Leeds youth coach Carlos Corberan, but it appears as if a move to Elland Road could be on the cards once again.

The Latest: Orta willing to trigger release clause

According to The Sun on Sunday (30/1; page 62), relayed by The Boot Room, Leeds are ready to reignite their interest in the central midfielder.

The Whites are thought to willing to activate a £10m release clause in O’Brien’s contract in what would be a dramatic late January deal.

The Verdict: Interesting

Leeds still haven’t signed a midfielder on a permanent deal under Bielsa - a staggering fact during his impressive tenure in Yorkshire. He is in need of one now, though, with Kalvin Phillips sidelined through injury and limited options with the Whites flirting with the relegation zone.

O’Brien, labelled as a ‘powerful’ midfielder, could be a shrewd addition at £10m, and Bielsa is clearly a big fan going by the extent of the summer interest.

He can play as a defensive or central midfielder and has plenty of experience in the second tier despite being just 23 years of age.

One journalist believes he would ‘jump’ at the chance to join Leeds, so if the Whites do indeed activate his release clause, it could be a dramatic deadline day for the Whites.
