Excitement is building among the Leeds United fans in the Transfer Tavern following the announcement that Marcelo Bielsa has officially taken charge of the club to succeed Paul Heckingbottom.
The identity of Leeds’ new boss has finally been named and it’s fair to say the supporters are delighted by the appointment. The Whites have been through their fair share of managers in recent years, so the supporters are naturally eager to see a long and successful stint from Bielsa as he attempts to install stability into the club.
Now that Bielsa has taken the reigns, attention will naturally move towards his activity in the transfer market. The Argentine will be looking to put his own stamp on the squad, and a recent report from Varsky Sports (via Sportinastorm) has already linked him with a loan move for his fellow compatriot, namely Juan Foyth.
Foyth moved to Tottenham Hotspur from Estudiantes in the summer of 2017 for a transfer fee of £11.7 million which represented quite a bump for an unproven 19-year-old player moving from South America. Tottenham’s decision to spend a huge figure on Foyth suggests that he is destined for a bright future in the game, and murmurs emerging from the club have hinted that Mauricio Pochettino has big plans for him.
The report claims that Bielsa is hoping to use his relationship with Pochettino to secure a loan deal for Foyth’s services, and the supporters should be desperately hoping that he is successful in his pursuit. Although Foyth was only handed a limited number of opportunities to shine last season, he showed plenty of composure in possession and defensive intelligence to break up play, and his calming influence would be hugely beneficial to the entirety of the Whites’ defence next season.
After training alongside the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Son Heung-min on a daily basis, Foyth is well-placed to become an instant hit in the Championship next season. There’s no doubt that signing Foyth represents a risk considering his lack of experience, but on paper he’s ready for the intense challenge which the Championship provides.
The foundations of a successful promotion bid are built upon a solid defensive unit and, with Foyth at the heart of the back-four, Leeds will become one of the toughest nuts to crack in the division if Bielsa is successful in his pursuit of the 20-year-old prodigy.
