Sunderland look like they are well on their way to relinquishing their Premier League status, and David Moyes will no doubt be as gutted as anyone. 

The Black Cats have struggled for the majority of the season, and but for the goals of Jermain Defoe, would surely have already been relegated.

The Sunderland fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been in a sombre mood for quite some time now, and they very much seem to have accepted their fate in that they will be playing Championship football next season.

Our landlord has been having some good in depth chats with the Mackems over by the fruit machine this week though, and they are keen to get to the summer and get rid of some of their squad members who have simply not done it for the club.

With this in mind, we have taken a look at THREE Sunderland players who need to be let go this summer…

Steven Pienaar

The former Everton man was brought in by Moyes to help bring some creativity and bite to the midfield, but has looked a shadow of the player he once was at Goodison Park.

He is likely to be on big wages, and Moyes will more than likely be looking to move Pienaar on with Championship football around the corner.

Jack Rodwell

Another former Everton player, Rodwell has a miserable record for Sunderland since making the move from Manchester City.

Once touted as one of the brightest young talents in the English game, Rodwell has seriously regressed and is another player who looks like he will be moved on by Moyes once the transfer window arrives.

Fabio Borini

Italian forward Borini has always divided opinion in England, but there has always been a strong sense of opinion that he just is not suited to the style of player over in the Premier League.

He is unlikely to want to play Championship football, and Moyes would be wise to look to move Borini on this summer.
