‘Let’s not do this again’ – Newcastle United fans on Twitter react to takeover reports

The Newcastle fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a story in The Telegraph that claims Mike Ashley will renew his efforts to sell Newcastle United again as soon as Premier League safety is assured. The fans will be pleased to hear that there are supposedly two new parties that have shown interest in recent weeks and Ashley is still willing to negotiate with Amanda Staveley.

Mike Ashley bought Newcastle in 2007 and has had a number of ups and downs in his time as the club’s owner. The club have tasted relegation twice and bounced back as Champions of England’s second-tier twice. The club also had a season in Europe in the 2012/13 campaign after Alan Pardew guided the Magpies to 5th the season before, the St James Park faithful enjoyed their European adventure as they got to the last eight of the Europa League. Just five years on, the club have gone down and come back up again and look miles away from playing European football.

The Magpies propping our bar up have put that down to Mike Ashley though, as the Sports Direct owner has been accused a number of times of failing to properly invest in the club and pocketing money at the expense of the fans. Our local Geordies have been saying for a number of years that Ashley needs to go and the man who paid just over £100 million for the club 11 years ago has been apparently trying to often the Toon Army with a number of take-over bids falling through.

You can see what our resident Magpies make of Ashley’s stance in seeling the club here:
