Journalist Jacque Talbot has revealed that reported Liverpool midfield target Teun Koopmeiners will not be leaving Atalanta in this window.

The Lowdown: Koopmeiners 'watched'

According to iNews, the Anfield outfit have ‘watched’ Koopmeiners ‘in recent months’ ahead of a potential move in January.

After the deal for Cody Gakpo, there is an increasing Dutch influence on the Merseysiders, helped along by Jurgen Klopp’s prominent assistant coach Pep Lijnders.

The report suggests that two new midfielders need to be signed, and Koopmeiners and Jude Bellingham have been named as possible targets.

The Latest: No January exit

Taking to Twitter, Talbot has revealed that Atalanta will 'refuse' to sell Koopmeiners in this window, and so the Reds could move on to other targets:

"Told Atalanta will refuse to sell reported Liverpool target Teun Koopmeiners this window. Aiming for Europa and have already sold off Ruslan Malinovskyi to Marseille. Hear been talks between Reds and Khephren Thuram of Nice - and Kouadio Kone of Borussia Monchengladbach though."

The Verdict: Shame

It is a shame that Liverpool look set to miss out on signing Koopmeiners this month.

Lauded as an ‘extraordinary footballer‘ by Atalanta legend Domenico Progna, he ranks in the 92nd percentile for xAG and shot-creating actions per game of all his positional peers in Europe’s top five leagues over the last year (FBRef), and played in all five matches for the Netherlands at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, registering one assist (Transfermarkt).

At club level, Koopmeiners recently became the first player in the Serie A to create eight or more chances in one match this season when Atalanta drew against Spezia, also registering an assist.

Nonetheless, the 24-year-old would have been a welcome addition at Anfield, but now they need to focus on other targets.
