Liverpool face fresh approach for “exceptional talent”

Liverpool face fresh approach for “exceptional talent”

Liverpool’s squad has undergone a huge transformation since the departure of Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2024.

Arne Slot led his side to a Premier League title in his debut season in charge on the red side of Merseyside and was rewarded with a bumper summer transfer window.

Alexander Isak, Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni were all brought in to inspire a new chapter of success at Anfield, but so far it hasn’t gone to plan.

Liverpool have struggled to maintain their high standards, with numerous variables contributing to their fall from the Premier League throne.

However, the high turnover of incomings and outgoings has been widely attributed as a major factor in their troubles.

The squad is in a real transition period, with the most experienced players either entering the final months of their contracts or moving into the latter stages of their careers.

Finding the right balance to steady the ship will therefore be important for Slot beyond this season.

The January transfer window saw reported approaches for both Andrew Robertson and Curtis Jones, though the club quickly dismissed any chance of the pair moving on mid-season.

A new report from Italian news outlet Corriere dello Sport has claimed that Inter and AC Milan remain interested in signing Liverpool midfielder Jones.

The publication claims that the academy graduate is on the radar of the two Serie A giants as he enters the final year of his contract next season, with a potential opportunity to pounce given his reluctance to sign a new deal.

Will Liverpool sell Curtis Jones?

There is no doubt that Jones’ long-term future at the club is uncertain, particularly given the limited game time he has received under Slot in recent months.

The 25-year-old – once hailed as an “exceptional talent” by former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp – is a Red through and through, having played a key role in midfield during many of the club’s successes in recent years.

However, with Dominik Szoboszlai dominating and new arrival Florian Wirtz finding his feet, Jones’ opportunities in the starting eleven have been less consistent, averaging 55 minutes across his 34 appearances so far this season.

The ongoing contract negotiations appear to be at an impasse between the club and the player, making it impossible at this stage to determine whether Liverpool would be willing to sell their protégé.

With that being said, it will be interesting to see whether Liverpool entertain offers for Jones in the summer or whether they value his contribution and potential too highly to part ways and instead continue pushing to agree a new contract.
