Liverpool set to beat rivals to sign “unbelievable” £25m PL ace

Liverpool set to beat rivals to sign “unbelievable” £25m PL ace

Liverpool went on a monumental spending spree last summer and are set to be active again when the current campaign ends.

The Reds have struggled to retain their high standards in the Premier League and are now battling for a place in the Champions League qualifying spots, with just nine games left to seal their fate.

Indeed, Arne Slot has led his side to the round of sixteen in the European competition, and they have also progressed into the next round of the FA Cup.

Still, it has ultimately been a disappointing season on the red side of Merseyside.

Inconsistencies and injuries have plagued the squad throughout, and although the investment in the squad offered high-quality solutions and a breath of fresh air in attack, the new additions have taken time to get used to life at Anfield.

This summer, it is expected that the Liverpool hierarchy will continue their efforts to build the next chapter of success, and defensive reinforcements appear to be high on the list of priorities.

According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson.

The publication reports that sources claim Robinson would prefer a move back to Merseyside, despite playing for local rivals Everton in the past.

It is noted that Fulham value the USMNT star at £25m, and the fierce Premier League rivals are both keen to strengthen the left side of their defensive set-up this summer.

Will Liverpool sign Antonee Robinson?

There is no doubt that several variables have contributed to Liverpool’s struggles, but addressing the defensive depth will be a major focus in the summer.

Ibrahima Konate and Andrew Robertson will be out of contract if they do not extend their stay before July, while club captain Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez will both be entering the final year of their deals next season.

Building the next generation of the defensive set-up will not be easy for Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, as Liverpool once had one of the strongest backlines in Europe.

Indeed, Milos Kerkez has started to show signs of being a reliable option for Slot on the left flank, but with Robertson potentially set for an exit, and the manager’s decision not to bring back Kostas Tsimikas from loan during an injury crisis, it suggests there is room for a new addition.

Robinson – once hailed as “unbelievable” by manager Marco Silva – boasts a wide range of strengths, including ball interception, dribbling, tackling and crossing, offering both defensive reliability and attacking prowess.

The 28-year-old USMNT ace is expected to be selected for his national team at the World Cup this summer, so Liverpool may need to wait until the tournament ends before making their move.

With that being said, if the valuation of £25m is correct, Robinson would be a steal for Liverpool and could easily strengthen Slot’s current options.

Though, a move is likely to depend on Robertson’s future, as game time would be limited for Robinson if he did join Liverpool and the Scotland skipper extended his contract.
