Liverpool will send club officials to watch Shakhtar Donetsk in action against Real Madrid and are likely watching winger Mykhaylo Mudryk, according to journalist Artur Petrosyan.

The Lowdown: Mudryk impressing hugely

The 21-year-old is catching the eye with his performances for Shakhtar and Ukraine, scoring and assisting twice apiece in the Champions League already this season.

Mudryk has been dubbed the 'Ukrainian Neymar', which is high praise indeed, and a massive future is being predicted for him in the coming years.

Liverpool could do with more long-term attacking reinforcements, with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino both now in their 30s, and it appears as though Mudryk could be a target.

The Latest: Liverpool scouting youngster?

Taking to Twitter on Tuesday, Petrosyan revealed that Liverpool officials will watch Mudryk take on Madrid in the Champions League on October 5, though it is not clear whether he is the main reason for their visit:

"Liverpool scouts will be present at Shakhtar v R Madrid. Mudryk is likely the reason. Shakhtar declined summer offers (€30m max) for the winger (Everton, Brentford). 'After Mbappe and Vinicius, he is the best in Europe in his position,' said Dario Srna, club's director of football."

The Verdict: Very exciting update

If Liverpool managed to snap up Mudryk in the next year or so, it has the potential to be one of their most exciting pieces of transfer business in years.

To only be seen as behind Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr in that left-sided position says a lot about his quality, having already registered 12 assists in 31 appearances for Shakhtar and earning five senior caps for his country.

Mudryk would come in as a long-term prospect at Liverpool who could also be a key man from the off, hopefully maturing into one of the best attacking players of his generation alongside Luis Diaz at Anfield.
