Liverpool are not believed to be one of the big clubs interested in signing West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in the summer transfer window.

The Lowdown: Rice enjoying superb season

The Hammers have enjoyed an excellent season under David Moyes, and while a number of players have stood out, Rice has arguably been their star man.

He has been one of the Premier League's outstanding midfielders in 2021/22, starting 28 matches and averaging a hugely impressive 91.1% pass completion rate.

The England international has also been hailed as 'world-class' by David Hunt, the former head of academy recruitment at West Ham, who added that he is the best on the planet in his position currently.

The Latest: Liverpool not keen on move

Although there looks set to be a battle for Rice's signature this summer, a source has informed Football Insider that Liverpool are not in the running, even though Jurgen Klopp is an admirer.

This comes as a pretty sharp twist from previous reports, which suggested FSG could indeed make a big-money move for the east London's rising star.

Instead, it is Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea who are tussling for his signature.

The Verdict: Right decision by Reds

While Rice is maturing into a formidable player for West Ham, there is no need for Liverpool to sign a player of ilk, given the brilliance of Fabinho in the No.6 role.

Both he and Rice play in a similar position, with Klopp's 4-3-3 system offering room for only one defensive midfielder while David Moyes' 4-2-3-1 affords two spots. Keeping them both happy would be hard for Klopp, with a more attack-minded No.8 such as Jude Bellingham making more sense.

The report does state that a new midfielder is a primary aim for Liverpool this summer, which bodes well, but expect to see Rice make a big-money move to one of the Reds' rivals instead of heading to Anfield.
