Former Premier League goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes that Liverpool will be in the race to sign Brighton defender Ben White next summer.
White to Anfield?
The 23-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Anfield last summer after putting in a series of impressive displays during his season-long loan at Leeds United, and was a key part of helping Marcelo Bielsa’s side securing promotion to the Premier League.
For the Seagulls, White has featured in all 23 of their Premier League games this season and is an integral segment to Graham Potter’s team.
“A lot of clubs will be looking to sign an elite level centre-back in the summer,” he said. “I expect Ben White to be in demand from Leeds, Liverpool and Tottenham at the end of the season.
“You can see how hard that market when you look at Liverpool’s business in January. They waited until the end of the window and they got two players who they probably did not initially want to sign.
“If you are a top-class centre-half in this day and age, you are in high-demand.”
Transfer Tavern Verdict
We fully expect Liverpool to be in the market for a central defender this summer, on the back of their catastrophic injury crisis in the same position this season.
They have been unlucky, but at the same time, did not react quickly enough in January over Joel Matip’s obvious fitness niggles that continue to deprive his career.
Robinson is right. Liverpool will be taking a keen interest in White who could have a long Anfield career.
