Liverpool are keen on Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix. The Reds are in the market for a new centre-back and made no secret of their admiration for Palace skipper Marc Guehi last summer.
A deal for Guehi was in fact agreed, only to fall through in the dying moments of the window. While Guehi will now see out his Palace contract and could join the Reds for free next summer, that is not a guarantee as Europe’s elite continue to track him.
According to FootballInsider, Liverpool has now begun casting their net beyond Guehi, although not too far as they have seemingly landed on his Palace teammate Lacroix. Lacroix is understood be highly appreciated by Liverpool’s scouting department, who have described him as a “Rolls Royce” defender.
Lacroix has impressed since joining Palace from German side Wolfsburg in the summer of 2024. He made 35 appearances in the Premier League while also helping his side claim the FA Cup.
He has drawn comparisons to his countryman William Saliba as well as Liverpool skipper Virgil Van Dijk for his composed nature when defending and with the ball at his feet.
Liverpool eyeing Lacroix

It will take some convincing to get Palace to part ways with the 25 year old, as he has helped anchor a Palace side that is currently 19 games unbeaten stretching back to last season. The Eagles are the only remaining unbeaten Premier League side so far this season domestically, having only conceded three league goals.
The Frenchman’s statistics so far this season are comparable to Virgil Van Dijk, winning more tackles and interceptions than the Reds skipper. Palace paid £18m for his services and tied him to a contract until 2029.
They will be in a strong position should Liverpool approach and could likely demand a fee north of £50m given the player’s form, age, and the current transfer market climate. The Reds could be reeling from the loss of Ibrahima Konate who continues to be linked with a free transfer to Real Madrid when his contract expires this summer.
Lacroix could be seen as the perfect replacement for his countryman.
