Liverpool spent heavily in the summer transfer window but have struggled to hit the ground running so far this season.
The Reds were tipped to confidently retain their Premier League crown after securing several high-profile signings, including Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.
However, it hasn’t gone to plan, with the squad struggling to dominate in performances both domestically and in Europe – something largely out of character for the club over the last decade.
Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah has been central to every success Liverpool have enjoyed since his arrival in 2017 and has established himself as one of the most prolific and feared attacking threats in world football.
The 33-year-old deservedly earned another two-year extension to his Anfield stay, a move that supporters were desperate for throughout last season.
Across 414 appearances for Liverpool, Salah has scored a remarkable 249 goals, making him the third-highest goalscorer in the club’s history – a monumental achievement for the Egypt captain.
However, this season has been an anomaly for the winger, who usually starts campaigns in blistering form; so far, he has managed just four goals in all competitions.
There is still time for him to turn things around, but with the addition of a powerful strike force in Isak and Hugo Ekitike over the summer, questions have begun to emerge about whether Salah will remain Liverpool’s primary attacking outlet in the long term.
According to Fichajes, Liverpool are closely monitoring a move for Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.
The report claims the England international is being touted as a potential long-term replacement for Salah, with Liverpool scouts having been sent to Tyneside on multiple occasions to observe his performances.
It is understood that Newcastle view Gordon as a key player and have no intention of entering negotiations at a low valuation. The Magpies reportedly have no interest in selling unless their terms are firmly met.
Should Liverpool Sign Anthony Gordon?

There is no doubt that Gordon is one of the most talked-about wingers in the Premier League, having gone from strength to strength since his move from Everton to Newcastle.
The 24-year-old has been a long-term target for Liverpool, and it was reported in the summer that Newcastle would not entertain offers below £75m.
However, Gordon is now said to have a £100m release clause in his latest contract.
Liverpool’s interest in Gordon should come as no surprise, given his prolific and dangerous attacking partnership with Isak during their time together at Newcastle.
The winger is not a direct like-for-like replacement for Salah – he operates less as an inside forward and more as a versatile attacking presence in the final third, offering strengths in crossing, pace, aggression and off-the-ball disruption.
Moreover, Gordon has demonstrated the ability to play across the forward line, making him an attractive prospect for the Reds as he could provide tactical flexibility and add valuable depth.
A move for the Newcastle star would represent a major shift in the dynamics of Liverpool’s attacking threat for the future.
Rather than relying on a single out-and-out scorer from the right flank, goal contributions would likely be driven through Gordon’s creativity and link-up play with the central forwards.
