The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Lionel Messi and Argentina are currently training in Manchester using City’s facilities. Argentina face friendly fixtures against Italy and Spain in the next week as they look to make their final preparations before the World Cup in summer.
Although they’re only training, the Citizens propping our bar up can’t help but think Messi must be on his way to Manchester to play under his old boss Pep Guardiola. Messi has been rumoured to be linked with Chelsea and Manchester City over the last couple of years, although the rumours carry little weight as the world’s greatest ever player continues to dazzle in Catalonia for Barcelona.
The Argentine squad will be playing their “home” game against Italy at the Etihad, despite being almost 7000 miles from their regular home ground, The Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti. The change in scenery will make no difference to the preparations of the South American footballing giants as the expectations of every major footballing nation is being ramped up ahead of another World Cup. At least for the Argentines, there’s a genius like Messi to fall back on.
