‘Madness incoming’ – City and United fans battle after club’s Twitter post ahead of Manchester derby

The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are getting excited ahead of their biggest match of the season this weekend…

Manchester City have had to dig deep in recent weeks to continue their incredible run of victories. They were not at their best away at Huddersfield, or at home to Southampton and West Ham last week, but as all potential title-winners do, they found a way to grind out a victory on all three occasions. This weekend will represent their toughest challenge of the season so far, as they travel to Old Trafford to face their local-rivals and fellow title-contenders Manchester United.

With the gap between the two sides standing at eight-points, the result this weekend could prove to be a major turning point in the battle for top spot.

Ahead of the weekend fixture, Manchester City’s official Twitter page delivered the news to their followers that Michael Oliver will take charge of the eagerly anticipated Manchester derby.

It is fair to say the news has certainly not been met with an enthusiastic response by either set of supporters, as fans from both clubs are complaining about the appointment.

But there were a couple of stray voices of support for Oliver who will have a hugely difficult job managing a game of such magnitude on Sunday afternoon.

Who’d be a ref, hey?

Here’s what the fans had to say about Oliver’s appointment…
