Man City defender braced for summer exit

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern aren’t sure how to feel about this…

Manchester City’s defence has, undoubtedly, been the weakest area of their side so far this season – with a number of poor performances costing Pep Guardiola’s men points in recent weeks.

A number of players have come for heavy criticism in the Transfer Tavern, including the likes of John Stones and Nicolas Otamendi – but it would appear as though another member of the Man City back line is drawing the ire of Guardiola.

According to the Sun, long-standing Man City defender Aleksander Kolorov, whose contract expires at the end of the season, is yet to be offered a new deal and is free to talk to other clubs – with Guardiola unwilling to offer him a new deal at present.

The Sun note that Kolorov’s poor performance in recent weeks are the cause for the lack of contact – with Guardiola unconvinced by the defender.

The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern can certainly understand Guardiola’s point of view, as they too have been critical of Kolorov – but they feel that the defender is deserving of a new deal. His years of service should outweigh the poor performances in recent weeks – and they have pointed to the poor performances of the side in general, rather than focusing in on individual displays.

Despite Guardiola’s reported unhappiness with Kolorov, there is no doubting how vital he has been this season – having made 17 starts in the Premier League so far. Offering explosive set pieces and dynamic attacking down the flank, Kolorov’s defending is certainly not his strongest point – but the job that he does elsewhere on the pitch should not be undervalued.

Our landlord is backing him to turn it around…
