Manchester City are continuing to assess long-term squad options ahead of a busy summer window, with several positions under review despite strong performances across the season.
One of the most intriguing success stories has been Matheus Nunes’ adaptation at right-back, where he has delivered eight assists in all competitions and ranked among the Premier League’s best in tackles and interceptions from that role.
However, the Portuguese international is still a midfielder by trade, and City are aware that using him in defence may not be a permanent solution.
As a result, attention is now turning towards a specialist option who could eventually take over that position full-time.
Man City Monitoring Givairo Read

Manchester City are keeping a close watch on Feyenoord right-back Givairo Read, with reports suggesting the club are considering him as a long-term option in defence.
Sky Sports report that the Premier League champions have been tracking the 19-year-old’s progress in the Eredivisie, where he has impressed with his athleticism, defensive awareness and attacking output.
Although no immediate move is guaranteed, City have been monitoring his development for some time as they evaluate future depth at right-back.
Read’s rise has not gone unnoticed elsewhere in Europe either, with Bayern Munich among the clubs also following his progress closely. The Dutch youth international has earned growing recognition for his dynamic style of play, with Feyenoord staff reportedly viewing him as the “new Denzel Dumfries,” a comparison made by assistant coach Etienne Reijnen.
City have previously explored options in the position, including interest in Tino Livramento and other emerging full-backs, but the strong form of Nunes in an adapted role has delayed any immediate signing.
Read is currently sidelined through injury but is expected to return soon, with City scouts set to continue monitoring him closely for the remainder of the season.
