The Man City fans in the Transfer Tavern are expecting a real title challenge this season…
It’s been a decent start to the season for the Citizens, with a resolute performance against Bournemouth over the weekend securing an important three points for Pep Guardiola’s side.
In truth, anything other than a Premier League title win is likely to be deemed a disappointment for the fans in the pub, and so the Citizens really have their work cut out this season.
Still, they have a top squad that is easily capable of doing well this term, and if Pep Guardiola gets his way, they could even be joined by another world renowned star.
According to Goal, Man City remain ‘hopeful’ of securing a deal for Alexis Sanchez this summer, and they are likely to make another effort to sign him over the coming few days.
Sanchez, of course, was a part of the Arsenal team that was demolished by Liverpool over the weekend, and with just a year remaining on his current deal, his future looks increasingly uncertain.
Arsenal will, of course, be hesitant to sell, but there’s no doubting that he would fit in well with Pep Guardiola at Man City.
Landlord’s Verdict
Sanchez is a top player, and whilst Man City already have a number of very good attackers, he would definitely be a decent fit at the Etihad.
Whether they will be able to land him, though, is another topic entirely. Arsenal won’t want to sell him, particularly to a rival team, but the Chilean will likely be keen to link up with Guardiola.
Alternative reports, including one from Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol, suggest that the Citizens could use Raheem Sterling in an effort to convince the Gunners, though it remains to be seen whether that is enough to tempt Wenger’s side.
It’ll be tough to land him this close to the end of the window, but stranger things have happened this summer.
