Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are discussing an interesting rumour they’ve been presented with this morning, which suggests a veteran could remain on at the Etihad Stadium.
The Sun states Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is ready to hand Ivorian midfielder Yaya Toure a fresh one-year contract this summer to extend his stay at the Etihad Stadium, after the 33-year-old forced his way back into the fold this season.
Toure remained absent for the majority of the opening period of the season due to issues with his agent and his future at the Citizens but the cult-hero forced his way back into the side in recent months and has led Guardiola into a change in heart.
An injury to Ilkay Gundogan, which ruled the former Borussia Dortmund man out for the season, handed Toure an opening back into the side and he’s enjoyed fantastic form since as the Citizens challenge for a top-four finish.
Our landlord believes keeping Toure for another year would be extremely beneficial due to the wealth of changes anticipated this summer and feels his experience could be vital.
