Manchester City’s relentless push at the top of the Premier League has completely reshaped the title race.
After sitting nine points behind Arsenal earlier in the campaign, Manchester City have clawed their way back into pole position, underlining once again why they remain the benchmark in English football.
It hasn’t been a straightforward surge, though. Injuries, squad rotation and the sheer intensity of competing on multiple fronts have all tested Pep Guardiola’s side.
Even so, City’s ability to grind out results has kept them firmly in control of their destiny. With another demanding season nearing its conclusion, attention is already beginning to shift toward the summer transfer window, where reinforcements are expected.
And it appears the Cityzens may already have one ambitious target in mind.
City Keen on Enzo Fernandez
Manchester City are exploring a potential move for Enzo Fernandez as they assess midfield options ahead of the summer window, according to The Athletic.
The Argentine, who was described as “magnificent” by recently sacked former Chelsea boss Liam Rosenior, is among several players being monitored as Guardiola looks to reshape his squad.
At this stage, City’s interest is understood to be preliminary, with the club also tracking alternative targets such as Elliot Anderson of Nottingham Forest. Recruitment plans remain fluid, but midfield is clearly an area under review.
Part of that reshuffle is being driven by confirmed departures.
Bernardo Silva is set to leave when his contract expires, bringing an end to a hugely successful spell at the Etihad. Meanwhile, there is still some uncertainty surrounding Rodri. Although his current deal runs until 2027 and Guardiola has expressed confidence about an extension, the midfielder has previously hinted at a desire to return to Spain in the future.
Fernandez, for his part, remains tied to Chelsea until 2032, but his long-term future is not entirely settled. Comments made earlier this year suggested he could reassess his situation down the line, particularly if contract discussions with the club fail to reach a satisfactory outcome after the next World Cup.
Even with a title charge under control, City are clearly not standing still. Identifying a profile like Fernandez this early suggests the club are preparing for change in midfield rather than reacting to it — a sign that this summer’s business could be about evolution rather than overhaul.
