Our resident Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern are feeling confident that the good times will be back in 2017.

After another shaky start to the season many felt they were still some way away from being the side they once were but things certainly look to be picking up now.

Indeed, Jose Mourinho has at last managed to get a tune out of his vast riches available to him and appears to be playing it on repeat with the club on a fine winning streak.

They’ll be looking to keep that up for the rest of the season and win a trophy at least whilst their squad is beginning to look the best in the division.

Keeping it together, then, is going to be crucial to United’s chances and whilst players are getting linked away our landlord reckons these two in particular should actually stay – here’s who and why…

Memphis Depay

Depay has been linked with Everton recently by Sky Sports amongst others after enduring a pretty tough time at Old Trafford up until now.

Indeed, he hasn’t been the player he was made out to be when he signed but our landlord reckons United should give him a little more time. He’s still very young and does have talent – he just has a confidence deficiency – and, if anyone can help fix that, it’s surely current boss Jose Mourinho.

Luke Shaw

Shaw hasn’t been linked with any clubs of note per se but he has been in the cold for United this season after falling out of favour with Jose Mourinho.

You might think, then, that the Portuguese would be open to replacing him but our landlord believes if that is the case then he should rethink things. The young English defender still has plenty to learn as well the potential to be one of the league’s leading lights so it would be silly to let him go just yet.
