It’s been a good few weeks for Man Utd. Things appeared to be really looking up after a win over Juventus last week, whilst a few good performances in the preceding weeks left optimism at a season-high.
However, things were brought back to reality on Sunday, with Man Utd taking on Man City in the famed Manchester derby. It looked set to be a real test of Man Utd’s steel, and moreover, it was to be the biggest test of their quality yet this season.
Whilst they have so often stepped up to the plate over the last couple of weeks, they fell well short against the Citizens, with Pep Guardiola’s men good value for their 3-1 win.
It was a pretty poor and lifeless performance from Man Utd, and it was a particularly bad display from Nemanja Matic. A real favourite of Mourinho, he’s had a tough season, yet somehow has retained significance within the team.
The Serbian lacked the characteristic midfield dominance that has made him so useful in the past, and it’s fair to say that many Man Utd fans online are not happy at all.
