Luke Shaw’s Manchester United career has always been difficult to define.
At his best, the England international has looked like one of the finest left-backs in the Premier League — even Europe.
But persistent injury problems and inconsistent availability have prevented him from maintaining that level over a sustained period.
A loyal servant since arriving in 2014, Shaw has had his moments, but with fitness concerns continuing and age beginning to catch up, United are now actively considering long-term alternatives in that position.
Man Utd Tracking Lewis Hall
Manchester United are closely monitoring Newcastle United full-back Lewis Hall as they search for a potential successor to Luke Shaw, according to Caught Offside.
The Red Devils have identified left-back as an area in need of strengthening, and Hall has emerged as a leading candidate thanks to his rapid development in the Premier League.
Still only 21, he has already established himself as a key figure for Newcastle, making 42 appearances across all competitions this season.
United’s interest forms part of a broader recruitment strategy focused on younger, high-upside players who can grow into key roles over time. Hall fits that profile perfectly, offering energy, technical quality and attacking intent from deep — attributes United are keen to add to their defensive options.
However, any move will be far from straightforward. Newcastle view Hall as a cornerstone of their long-term project and are in a strong contractual position, meaning they are under no pressure to sell. As a result, it would likely take a significant offer to even bring them to the negotiating table.
