According to the Daily Mail, the defensive trio of Daley Blind, Chris Smalling and Marcos Rojo are all facing the exit at Man Utd – with Jose Mourinho eyeing Antonio Rudiger as a replacement for the defenders. Matteo Darmian’s future also remains unclear.
Whilst Rudiger is a highly thought of name in the Football Transfer Tavern, our landlord does not think it would be wise to replace 3 players with just 1 – especially considering that Man Utd aren’t blessed with defensive depth at present. Though, it must be noted that the Daily Mail do claim that Mourinho could also look to bring in a right-back.
What’s more, a few of the punters by the jukebox have claimed that Blind and Smalling have had relatively good seasons so far – and even Rojo looked good against Manchester City in the EFL Cup.
Rudiger is undoubtedly a good player, though, and would improve any defence in the Premier League. Despite being just 23-years-old, he has already cemented a place in the German national team and with AS Roma.
