After a disappointing few weeks, Wayne Rooney was recently dropped by Jose Mourinho at Man United – and there appears to be no clear path for the English veteran back into the first team.
Rooney is still good enough, but his form as of late has simply not been at a high enough level – and a few of the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern think that his Man Utd career could be over.
The Englishman will no doubt be having conversations with Jose Mourinho regarding his future ahead of the January transfer window – and if the Portuguese boss decides that Rooney is not in his plans; the 31-year-old will seemingly have no shortage of suitors.
China is undoubtedly the quickest growing football market at present, and an abundance of foreign stars have recently made the jump into the Chinese Super League, with the country keen to establish itself as a home of top quality footballers – and Rooney could be next to make the jump. That is, if ex-England manager Sven Goran-Erikkson has his way.
According to the Daily Mirror, Sven will in for Rooney in January with an offer worth over £80 million in a bid to secure the Englishman’s signature.
Interestingly, they add that Rooney turned down an offer 10 months ago – but since then his United situation has changed; and his perspective may have too.
Our landlord thinks that this offer could be too good to turn down for Rooney. With his game time diminishing, the offer of one last huge payday could be a huge draw for the Englishman – especially with his career beginning to draw to a close.
The Man Utd fans are mixed on the deal. On one hand, it is a great offer – and he is unlikely to start again regularly for the club.
But equally, he is one of the few Man Utd stars that has experience; and losing that could be a huge blow.
