According to a report from ESPN Brasil, translated by ESPN, Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho looks all but set to sign a new deal at the Etihad Stadium – extending his current contract past the end of this season whilst ‘renewing it automatically’ if he reaches certain goals.
The Brazilian midfielder has been a key asset since signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2013, going on to make 296 appearances for the Sky Blues whilst scoring 23 goals and assisting 25 others from midfield in that time, as per Transfermarkt.
Fernandinho, whilst arguably being crucial to three of City’s four Premier League title triumphs, also played a heavy hand in last season’s tense title race with Liverpool – notably putting in a brilliant performance during their 2-1 home victory over the Reds last year.
He has also adapted fairly well to being inserted into a centre-back role so far this campaign – making the most blocks per Premier League on average than anyone in the squad – resulting in supporters being overjoyed with the news that Fernandinho could extend his stay at the Etihad.
Here’s what they had to say.
Give him a ten year deal

It’s going to be hard enough saying goodbye to Silva. Can’t lose Fernandinho at the same time. He must stay!
