Manchester City: Fans react with glee to Carabao Cup quarter-final draw

After comfortably seeing off Southampton 3-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night, Manchester City can look forward to a Carabao Cup quarter-final tie away to Oxford United.

The draw for the last eight was made this morning, with other ties including Liverpool travelling to Aston Villa and Manchester United hosting Colchester. [via BBC]

Manchester City have won the competition consecutive times in the last two seasons, edging Chelsea on penalties in a final to remember last season, whilst also soundly beating Arsenal 3-0 in the 2017/18 final.

The Carabao Cup has been a staple of the team’s success in recent years, with City now just two titles behind Liverpool, who currently hold the record amount of eight League Cup wins.

In response to the potentially favourable draw, these Manchester City fans flocked to Twitter and voiced their relief in avoiding Premier League opposition in the quarter-finals.
