Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan is being eyed by Borussia Dortmund for a transfer swoop this summer, according to a report.

The Lowdown: Gundogan and Rodri linked with exits...

Man City have made it clear that they want to extend Gundogan's contract, with his current deal due to expire in the summer, but that same report from Football Insider indicates they have not made much progress in discussions.

It also notes that Barcelona are 'pushing hard' to sign the midfielder, while the La Liga club are also said to be eyeing a deal for Rodri, and they are prepared to pay £80m for the Spaniard this summer.

The Latest: Dortmund now in the mix

According to a report from Sport1 (via TEAMtalk), talks over a contract extension have stalled between City and the 32-year-old, with it now becoming even more likely that he exits the Etihad Stadium this summer.

It is also added that Dortmund have the central midfielder on a list of potential replacements for Jude Bellingham this summer, who they are set to demand £132.7m for, and they may be more willing to sell him if they can secure a top-quality replacement.

The Verdict: Silver lining?

Given the German's age, he is likely to be past his peak at this point, but he is still a key player for Pep Guardiola, making 22 appearances in the Premier League this season, already matching his assist tally of three from the 2021/22 campaign.

With a departure for Rodri also potentially on the cards this summer, Guardiola will be even more determined to keep hold of the 'magnificent' maestro, although there could be one advantage in letting him go.

Considering the report states that Dortmund would be more likely to sanction Bellingham's departure if they're able to bring in a replacement, City could be presented with an opportunity to sign the 19-year-old, who they have been linked with in the past.

While the aim should no doubt still be to keep hold of Gundogan, it would be fantastic for the Sky Blues if they had a better chance of signing Bellingham, who is tipped to be a 'generational talent'.
