Manchester City’s Premier League title challenge is reaching a critical stage.
With 11 matches remaining, Pep Guardiola’s side sit five points behind leaders Arsenal, albeit with a game in hand. A decisive showdown between the two sides still awaits — a fixture that could ultimately determine where the trophy ends up.
Yet while the focus remains firmly on the run-in, City are also planning for the longer term.
Recruitment staff continue to scan Europe for emerging talent, and one highly rated teenager in Italy has caught their attention.
Man City Scouting Honest Ahanor
At just 18, Honest Ahanor is quickly building a reputation as one of the brightest young defenders in European football. The Atalanta left-back has featured prominently in both Serie A and the Champions League, showcasing composure in defence alongside an adventurous streak going forward.
Former Italy international Aldo Serena, now working as a pundit, has even suggested Ahanor “will be one of the best in the world in his position” in the near future — high praise for a player still at the beginning of his senior career.
His rise has alerted several Premier League heavyweights. Sources close to the agent industry told Caught Offside that Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea have all tracked his progress closely, with scouts attending matches in recent months.
City and Arsenal are reportedly considering potential offers in the region of €35 million, recognising the defender’s significant long-term potential. However, Atalanta are in no rush to sell. The Serie A side currently regard Ahanor as untouchable and would prefer to keep him in Bergamo for at least another season despite mounting interest from England.
Manchester City’s pursuit of emerging talent continues even amid a heated title race. While prising Ahanor away from Atalanta this summer may prove difficult, the growing Premier League interest suggests the teenager’s future could soon become one of the most intriguing transfer sagas to watch.
