Manchester City’s defence has come under fire recently, as indicated by Alan Shearer’s comments on Match of the Day, via The Manchester Evening News.
This has intensified since the 3-2 loss against Norwich City, a game that John Stones played the full 90 minutes in, getting a rating of 6.2 from WhoScored.
While there are questions from the outside, it has emerged that Man City still have faith in the 25-year-old, with Txiki Begiristain offering a new contract that would keep the England international at the Etihad until 2024:
Manchester City are in talks to renew John Stones’ contract until 2024. Txiki Begiristain has offered a new wage of €7M per year plus bonuses.

This has angered sections of the Man City fanbase, as they see him as an injury-prone player who doesn’t deserve the contract being offered.
Stones has played three games in all competitions this season, having got on the pitch 39 times during the 2018/19 campaign, as per Transfermarkt.
A selection of Twitter reaction to the contract offer, including posts from frustrated Man City fans, can be seen below:
He needs to stay fit to start showing his worth. Not been.good enough overall.

But the dude can never stay healthy. The best trait in sports is availability. Just something to think about

No. Why? Do not think he has got it. His game has stagnated to me and he is injured a lot.
