Jeremy Cross from the Daily Star has today told punters in the Football Transfer Tavern that he expects David Moyes to look st Southampton teenager Luke Shaw if he fails to lure Leighton Baines from Everton this summer.
Moyes is desperate to land England international left-back Baines and has made recruiting the 28-year-old a key feature in his transfer policy upon arriving at Old Trafford. However Moyes’ former boss Bill Kenwright has made it very clear that Baines is not for sale at any price this summer.
This could see United instead trying to sign 17-year-old starlet Shaw who successfully broke into the Saints first team under the tutorage of former boss Nigel Adkins and is now regarded as one if hottest young defensive talents in Europe.
United legend and former left back himself Denis Irwin is convinced United will move for Shaw this summer. He said: “I’ve heard a word that the new manager might have Luke Shaw at the top of his list.
“The teenage Southampton full-back is the latest in a long line of prodigies from that club’s excellent youth system.”
The England Under-21 international will be available for around £10 million although Saints could hold out for more as they look to cash in on another of their fine academy products.

Shaw has already pledged himself to Southampton by agreeing to sign a deal on his eighteenth birthday. SFC are a team thats on the up, the last thing they want to do is sell their young talent, we are no longer a selling club (much to the disappointment of Arsenal i suspect) and will make some big signings this summer. Talk from the club of a top 4 finish next season may be a bit hopeful but a push to the top is on over the next few seasons, the club is highly ambitious and will not be letting our young talent go.
^What Eliza said. Shaw has admitted that if he went anywhere, it’d be Chelsea anyway.
Shaw is going nowhere. When will the press realise this. He is not available for £10m, he is just NOT AVAILABLE. Saints don’t need the cash.
